David,
I am touched by your site. I was diagnosed at 21 with a walnut sized tumor in my right temporal lobe - and am 2 years out now!!!
I am currently putting together a little presentation for the sixth graders I was student teaching to explain why I had to quit my program because of health issues. I want to show them some of the things I went through, and to perhaps get a few kids to understand how cancer survivors tick. I really would like to use some of your photos, especially those of your EEG - Sucked didn't it??? Nurses kept thinking I was seizing, but it was because of the few times I was happy while attached to all the wires! hahaha!!!
If you would let me use some images, that would be lovely, if not, thanks for documenting your journey so well - keep kicking ass and living strong.
your partner in astrocyte domination,
Nessa

For Jason
Jason, as a survivor of brain cancer, and having myself been through surgery, radiation, and Temodar therapy, I understand the thoughts and feelings you must be having.
I am sure that there are people out there who continue to visit David's site who could provide you with some answers to your questions. In your post, you did not reveal if you have had surgery, the location of your tumor, or give a general idea of your location geographically. Perhaps if you are willing to share a little more info, others could post and attempt to answer some of your questions and share their experiences.
If you do not feel comfortable posting these details on the web, I would be willing to give you an email address where we could correspond off-line.
I wish you well.

Hi,
My name is Jason. Two months ago I was diagnosed with Stage IV Glio. I am grateful for finding your page, it has been very helpful. I am on Radiation 5 days a week, and 150 mg of Temodar 7 days a week.I am 37 yrs old,6'4 275lbs. was in top shape, gym 5 days a week. Am I on the right track? Should I be aggressive with surgery, diet, or anything else medication wise, so far I am just doing as told, any other info would be helpful from you. once again, keep it up, you give me great hope! Thankyou so much! JL

I just took a look at the picture that was shot 5 years ago at our 20th high school reunion, just months before diagnosis. There was David in the front row, with a big ear to ear smile as usual.
We gather this evening to celebrate the 25 years that has past since graduating from Lake Braddock high school. Our joy will be tempered knowing that we will have to wait a little longer to see David at the great reunion. Here's to you David and the lives that graciously intersected with yours.
Your friend and fellow LB alum,

David- It is after 2am and I haven't slept after hearing of my brothers stoke and fatal inner cranial bleeding- Please watch after my only brother Brian James Collette who is dying tonight in the ICU. I feel so helpless as he is 1,000 miles away and we couldn't get a flight out after we heard. We fly out in a few hours to be by his side and pray he holds on until we get there so he doesn't die alone. I want to hold his hand. I want to tell him he was a good man and that I, his family and his daughters love him. Please watch over him David, tell him he is loved.

To the Welch Family:
My most sincere and deepest thoughts and prayers are with you and yours.
Being the mother, guardian and caregiver of a brain injured adult son I always found 38Lemon and David to be an inspiration. Although I never knew David personally I felt connected, because I understood what a family goes through in times such as these.
My son is post 13 years from being assulted and left with massive brain injury. He has come a long way and been a joy and inspiration to many such as David has. But, he to has started to show signs of declining health.
David helped give me strength to never give up. He also inspired me to start my own crusade against people with disabilities and bring awareness as to how easy it is to have a life change in a minute.

Re: Message #1977
Sadly, Robert (Bob) Gross who wrote to David in message #1977 died on August 1, 2009 at the age of 42. He lived 6 years from his initial diagnosis and was immensely brave. I'm proud that I was able to call him friend for 27 years. I found this website by accident and I think it is amazing. I hope Bob actually did get to meet David in August 2008 at NIH - I did not discover this until recently.
Peace to everyone who is either dealing with this disease or has a loved one who is.
D. Drew
